2016 Fairest of the Fair

2016 Fairest of the Fair - Sierra Huser

Hello! My name is Sierra Huser and I have had the great pleasure of representing Central Wisconsin as your 2016 Fairest of the Fair. I am a Sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where I am majoring in Dairy Science. I am member of the UWRF Dairy Club, Block and Bridle Club, and I work on a dairy farm in the area to keep me busy. I was a member of the Snyder 4-H Club for 15 years where I have exhibited everything from Arts and Crafts, Foods and Nutrition, and my favorite project, Dairy. Broadening my horizons has introduced me to what the fair is all about, and that is diversity and the wide array of passion and talent that these exhibitors have to offer. That is exactly what my journey of Fairest has been, trying new things and stepping out of my comfort zone.

It all started in August at coronation. I was ecstatic to hear my name called and to be crowned the new Fairest of the Fair! My duties started at the fair, on top of the dairy animal’s I was already exhibiting, but I made it all work! My favorite job was welcoming fairgoers to the Grandstand. I became very comfortable speaking to a large crowd in just a week’s time and looked forward to each act. Another highlight event was the rededication for the Round Barn, as it is such an iconic landmark for Wood County, and it was an honor to be a part of such a special event for the fair. I was also able to squeeze in time to escort our 2016 State Fairest of Fairs, Gloria Kesler, around the fairgrounds. We judged sheep herdsmanship, which was new to both of us. Her favorite part of our fair was the Round Barn and the llamas!

This past January I had the amazing opportunity to compete at the State Fairest of Fairs competition. There were 39 contestants from around the state all there for the same reason; to be named the Wisconsin Fairest of Fairs. Although there could only be one winner, every young lady there was deserving in their own way and had something special about them. We got to be very close over the four days of workshops, speakers, auctions, public speaking, and personal bonding time. Here, I could get some insight to other Fairest Programs to hopefully better our own, and I learned so much about myself by touching up my professionalism and public speaking skills.

Before the new Fairest of the Fair is crowned, I would like to thank those who make this experience possible. I have grown up on the fairgrounds and in 4-H, so to spend my last year in 4-H as the Fair’s representative was an absolute honor. Without all the support, love, and encouragement from those who made this possible, there wouldn’t be this opportunity for these young individuals to step out of their comfort zone and experience the professional world hands-on. I look forward to this summer’s endeavors of parades and dairy breakfasts, and for the future of the fair. Again, I cannot express my appreciation for this experience, it has been a super busy and amazing time to serve as your 2016 Fairest of the Fair. Thank you so much!
